Town Of Ross

Dear Rob,

This letter is an urgent request to the Town Council of Ross to approve the placement of signs for Marin Community Farm Stands & CSA operating as a cultural community event every Tuesday at the Marin Art & Garden Center.

MCFS has a long history operating for 10 years at MAGC.  Previous ordinances adopted by Ross administrations under former Mayor Jeanne Barr go back to 2005 and allowed for signage along Sir Francis Drake Blvd.  MCFS is requesting a minimum of two A-Frame signs.

Marin Community Farm Stands represents the cooperative efforts of over 20 Marin Organic farms from the communities of Bolinas, Point Reyes, Inverness, Nicasio, Tomales, Lagunitas and San Anselmo. MCFS is foremost in bringing the educational message of local sustainable agriculture and green movements in our normal course of business. The farm stand brings this message through all its producers, their certificates, organic certifications and the CSA, (as a community supported agriculture program) as well as the educational activities of other non-profits.

A timely vote by the Town Council will assure the continued operation of the Farm Stand at MAGC on Tuesday June 11, 2013.  Without permission to place our signs, we can not opererate.  We thank you in advance for this consideration.

Sincerely,

James J. Baum
President MCFS

Letter to Town Council on this issue from Marin Art & Garden Center

June 5, 2013

Town of Ross
Box 320
Ross, CA 94957

Dear Mayor Russell and Town Council members,

The Marin Art and Garden Center (MAGC) asks for permission for James Baum to place two a-frame signs along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, on MAGC property, one near the stoplight at the main entrance directly across from Lagunitas and another at the corner of Sir Francis Drake and Laurel Grove. There are three types of signs (pictures included) Hopefully one of these styles will work well with the town aesthetics, and two similar signs will be used for display on SFD Blvd. These signs will be put out at 11am and taken in at 7pm. These signs are the main source driving traffic to the Marin Community Organic Farm Stand scheduled at MAGC every Tuesday from June 11 to October 27, 2013.

Marin Community Organic Farm Stand has been a staple at MAGC for ten years, providing the Town of Ross and visitors to MAGC with fresh organic produce and products from over 20 farms and businesses in Marin and nearby communities.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

Sincerely,
James Baum

I am a long time supporter of the Marin Community Organic Farmstand at MAGC and live in Ross. I support his request to be able to leave his signs on SFD in front of the center. these signs help to remind me he is there as I am driving home from work and he and his
produce could not be any better! thank you

Dear Council Members,
I would like to voice my support for MAGC to continue to post signs on farm stand days. Jim's organic farm stand has been a blessing to this community since it's early days when I used to take my toddler son to Pixie Park in the stroller and stop by the farm stand on the way home to pick up produce for dinner. My son is now turning 10. In order to pull in business Jim needs to have large signs on the road. Thank you for supporting this business. I reside at 79 SFD Blvd. in Ross.

Please renew the sign permit. It's local organic food that should be eaten by the local neighborhood.

I just discovered the Ross farm stand last Tuesday. What a gem! I loved being able to purchase items from a variety of different farms all from one vendor, and I appreciated that everything was organic and local. It was a treat to talk with Jim about the delicious food I bought, and I even met a few new neighbors while there as well.

Please renew the signage permit so that as a community, we can continue to enjoy this wonderful farm stand and others are made aware so that they can discover it, too.

This is a fantastic service to the community and it would be such a loss not to be able to have the Ross farm stand. Please renew the sign permit so that we can continue to benefit from this wonderful opportunity.

Please renew the Marin Community Farm Stand signage permit. MAGC should absolutely have a farmer's market, as it supports the mission of our community!

Please allow the necessary signage to allow the Farmers Market to continue to come to Ross. It seems all the other communities in Marin allow similar temporary signs. It is the only way to remind us the Market is open on that day.

Please allow farm stand signs along Sir Francis Drake. I greatly appreciate the reminder and I feel that the town should support local sustainable agriculture by approving these signs. I am very grateful that the Ross Farm stand brings this produce into our community and the signs will reduce traffic by reminding drivers to pull in when they drive by. All good things!

Dear Town Council,
I am writing to urge you to give permission to Mr Baum, to allow him to continue put out his [very attractive] signs on Tuesdays when the organic Farm stand is open. It is a delightful asset to us in Ross and a 10 year tradition now: but without the signs, he cannot hope to survive there. When I am driving home from work, they certainly remind me that it's Tuesday! It seems to me most unfair to him to spring on him this new restriction after he has had permission for a decade. Please, from a long-time Ross family, allow him to continue. Janice Barry, MD

I have been a Ross resident for 20 years, and was very pleased when James first opened his Farm Stand several years back. The signs serve as a reminder for his seasonal return to MAGC, and allow him the advertising necessary to stay in business. It also brings the added benefit of exposing people to our beautiful MAGC.
